The 2026 version of an old claim
Every era has its version. It was "expert advisors" in the 2000s, "algorithmic trading" in the 2010s, and now every second advertisement offers an AI that trades for you.
The technology behind the current wave is real and genuinely useful. What is sold as its capability usually is not, and the gap is specific enough to check.
What machines actually do well here
Consistency. A program applies the same rules at 3 a.m. after four losses that it applied on Monday morning. That alone removes the largest category of retail loss — and it is a mechanical property, not intelligence.
Monitoring breadth. Twenty instruments, every timeframe, continuously. A person watching three charts misses what a machine sees on all twenty.
Measurement. Computing structure, volatility, correlation, and position size faster and more accurately than any human, every candle, without fatigue.
Record-keeping. Every decision logged with its inputs, so the system can be reviewed honestly later.
That is a substantial list, and none of it involves prediction.
