Your broker is the other side of your trade
Retail forex education almost never covers this, and the reason is structural: most of it is funded by brokers. So the single most important commercial fact about your trading gets left out.
When you click buy, someone is selling to you. Very often, that someone is your broker.
This is not an accusation. It is a business model, it is legal, it is disclosed in your terms — and understanding it changes several decisions you are currently making badly.
A-book and B-book
A-book (STP / agency): the broker passes your order to a liquidity provider and earns the spread or a commission. They make money whether you win or lose. Your interests are aligned.
B-book (dealing desk / market maker): the broker takes the other side internally. Your loss is their revenue. Your profit is their cost.
Most retail brokers run a hybrid: consistently losing accounts stay on the B-book; consistently profitable accounts get routed to the A-book, where the broker earns a spread instead of a loss.
while you are losing, your broker has no commercial reason to want that to change. Once you become profitable, they route you out and earn from you differently.
