A market is an auction, nothing more
Forget charts for a moment. Forget indicators entirely. A market is one thing: a place where buyers and sellers agree on a price.
That is not a simplification for beginners. It is the whole mechanism. Every time you see a candle move up, it means buyers were willing to pay more than sellers were willing to accept, so the price rose until someone accepted. Every time it moves down, the reverse.
Nothing else moves price. Not indicators, not patterns, not news by itself. News moves price only because it changes what people are willing to pay.
Why this matters immediately
Beginners lose money because they think of price as a thing that "should" behave a certain way — that an oversold RSI *should* bounce, that a support level *should* hold. Price does not owe anyone anything. It goes wherever the next transaction happens.
When you internalise that a chart is a record of agreements between people, two habits change:
- You stop asking "why did it do that?" and start asking "who was buying, and who was forced to sell?"
