Most "news trading" is gambling with a calendar open
The fantasy is simple: read the number faster than everyone, click the right way, collect 60 pips.
You will not read it faster. Institutional systems parse the release and transmit orders in microseconds. By the time the number renders on your screen, the first move is over. Your retail platform is the slowest participant in the room, by several orders of magnitude.
That does not mean news is untradeable. It means the tradeable part is not the release.
Three honest approaches
1. Stand aside. Close or reduce before the release, re-enter after conditions normalise. This is the correct default for beginners and remains correct for most people permanently. It costs you nothing but a few opportunities and removes the largest source of unplanned losses.
2. Trade the retracement. The initial spike frequently overshoots. Fifteen to sixty minutes later, price often retraces a large part of it as the market digests the detail. Spreads have normalised. You are trading a *reaction to the reaction*, with a stop you can trust.
