Pin bars, hammers and shooting stars
Recognise all three as one candle whose meaning comes from its location Apply the wick-to-body ratio and close-location checks Require the wick to clear a level that matters — the best examples are sweeps Accept the wider stop the pattern demands and reduce size for it
Engulfing candles — the momentum shift
Define engulfing by bodies rather than full ranges Compare the candle to recent average body size before treating it as a signal Weigh stronger confirmation against a wider stop than a pin bar requires Prefer the retest of the midpoint as an entry when it appears
Doji, indecision and the market pause
Read a doji as indecision rather than as a reversal signal Judge its value by location, extension and session activity Filter out thin-session doji before drawing any conclusion Trade the candle that resolves the indecision, not the doji itself
